About Leigh Erickson
Leigh Erickson
MASSAGE THERAPIST, CMT
Specializing in deep tissue, sports therapy, Swedish, myofascial release, prenatal, oncology, orthopedic, craniosacral and neuromuscular massage
My name is Leigh Erickson and I am a certified massage therapist. My work is deeply informed by the idea that the body is organized around a self-healing principle that has an intractable and vibrant inherent health as its core. I believe massage and bodywork help people to be better attuned to and aware of their own bodies. With this increased awareness, the body does much to heal itself and that my role is to support this process.
I graduated from a 1,000 hour program up in Seattle in 2010 and have completed hundreds of hours of continuing education training since then. Modalities I have studied include deep tissue, Swedish, sports therapy, myofascial release, prenatal, oncology, orthopedic, craniosacral and neuromuscular massage. My work tends to be very specific with the goal of supporting lasting change for my clients. While my work can be quite deep, I also firmly believe in listening to the tissue and not forcing things. One of my massage teachers once said that, “The client’s body is the most intelligent person in the room,” and this phrase deeply informs my bodywork.
My work is also based around awareness of and collaboration with the nervous system. I have years of training in biodynamic craniosacral therapy and, whether doing a purely craniosacral session or not, this has changed how I work with the body. With this lens, I hold space for past experiences, traumas, and energetic patterns within the body and provide gentle support for these patterns to unwind.
I am a big fan of self-care and will often offer stretches & other ideas that might be helpful in supporting the work that we do together in our sessions. Even if I hadn’t become a massage therapist, I would have been grateful for my time in massage school just to learn more about how the body works. Consequently, one of my missions is to empower people to take better care of themselves by sharing this understanding of how the body works and how to work with it to reduce pain as well as increase ease and function. I listen carefully to what each person is coming in with and create a custom session each time—even if I’ve been working with someone for years. I consider it a sacred thing to be trusted with someone’s body and pain and never take that trust for granted.
