Acupuncture Treatments

Acupuncture is an ancient healing modality. Originating from China thousands of years ago, it later spread to Japan, Korea, and is now practiced worldwide. It involves the placement of very thin, sterile, stainless-steel needles at certain points on the body that lie along the energetic pathways, also known as meridians or channels. These meridians are mostly associated with the internal organs and have deep connections throughout the body, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, nerves and bones. The needles can be used to help stimulate the body’s innate healing capacity and treat numerous conditions. Typically, the insertion of the needles is not felt and even thinner needles can be used for those who are more sensitive.

Acupuncture can help with a variety of patient issues and in addition has been shown in various clinical studies to relieve stress (by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system), improve immunity and support overall functioning of the body’s physiological processes.

At our practice, we’ve been trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Classical Chinese Medicine, anatomically based acupuncture (sports medicine / pain management) and Chinese herbal medicine.

The treatment of pain is often what leads patients to seek out acupuncture for the fist time, which it is highly effective at treating. However, this is only one small aspect of what acupuncture can treat.
